Hypocapnic vasoconstriction during halothane anaesthesia in surgical patients.

چکیده

The relation between the carbon dioxide tension of the capillary blood and the state of the blood vessels of the skin has been studied plethysmographically in curarized patients anaesthetized with halothanc in oxygen. It was observed that hypocapnia consistently caused constriction of the cutaneous blood vessels. The vasoconstrictive reaction was uninfluenced by hexamethonium bromide but was blocked by phentolamine and by chlorpromazine. It is concluded that carbon dioxide plays an important part in the maintenance of tissue perfusion in anaesthetized patients.

Changes in myocardial performance induced by pancuronium and gallamine in hypercapnic and hypocapnic dogs.

Changes in myocardial performance after administration of gallamine 1.5 mg kg-1 and pancuronium 0.1 mg kg-1 were investigated in hypercapnic (PaCO2 = 7.08 kPa) and hypocapnic (PaCO2 = 2.74 kPa) dogs anaesthetized with thiopentone, nitrous oxide and halothane. Administration of pancuronium during hypocapnia caused a decrease of 25% in dP/dt max (corrected for changes in preload, afterload and he...

The effect of nitrous oxide and halothane upon the intracranial pressure in hypocapnic patients with intracranial disorders.

In nine patients with severe intracranial disease causing increased intracranial pressure (ICP), the effects on ICP and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) of the following manoeuvres were studied: (1) endotracheal intubation, (2) addition of 50% nitrous oxide to the inspired gas after hyperventilation with oxygen and thereafter (3) addition of halothane to the nitrous oxide/oxygen mixture. The m...

Serum endogenous thyroxine levels in man during anaesthesia and surgery.

Determinations of serum thyroxine concentrations were made before induction of anaesthesia, after 20 minutes and 40 minutes of anaesthesia before operation, during operation, and after the end of operation in 36 patients. After 40 minutes of anaesthesia with diethyl ether and halothane there were significantly increased endogenous serum thyroxine concentrations, but thiopentone, nitrous oxide a...

A trial of enflurane for paediatric out-patient anaesthesia.

Enflurane was compared with halothane for anaesthesia for short surgical procedures in paediatric out-patients. Induction of anaesthesia was more prolonged with enflurane and recovery times were similar with both agents. Coughing and laryngospasm during induction occurred more frequently with enflurane. The incidence of post-operative complications was essentially similar in both groups, but th...

Hepatocellular integrity during and after isoflurane and halothane anaesthesia in surgical patients.

Subclinical disturbance in hepatocellular integrity, indicated by glutathione transferase Alpha (GSTA), has been associated with halothane, sevoflurane and propofol, but not with isoflurane anaesthesia. We anaesthetized 82 patients with isoflurane or halothane at 1 MAC for superficial surgery. GSTA concentration were measured with a sensitive time-resolved immunofluorometric assay in serum samp...
